Staying At The Most Eco-Friendly Hotel in Berlin
I’m a sucker for a good bum wiggle, history and vegan food.
I guess it makes sense that my travels keep bringing me back to the mecca of techno clubs, veganism, and iconic architecture in Germany.
This love affair with Berlin has flung me across all sorts of accommodation options in the city. From budget-friendly hostels to a former women’s prison turned boutique hotel and wherever else I could rest my weary legs.
But, on my most recent visit to Berlin, I found the hotel of my dreams: the Lulu Guldsmeden Hotel.
As with any big city in the world, hotels are not rare. What is rare is finding a hotel that’s in a prime spot, comfortable, and eco-friendly.
That’s what makes Lulu special. It’s a 4-star hotel with a laser-sharp focus on sustainability, delicious food, and comfy rooms that’ll swing you into holiday mode – literally.

How to Get to Lulu Guldsmeden Hotel
Lulu is smack bang in the middle of vibey Potsdamer Straße in Tiergarten.
With a bus stop right out of the hotel and the underground 500 metres away, you can easily reach Lulu Guldsmeden Hotel from BER Airport and explore the city.
The best way to get to the hotel from the airport: Take the train from BER Airport to Berlin Central Station. Then take bus M85 towards S Lichterfelde Süd via Hindenburgdamm.
The bus stops outside Lulu (Lützowstr./Potsdamer Str. ), saving you the schlep of dragging your luggage behind you or grabbing a taxi to take you the rest of the way.
The Location
First time in Berlin?
Tiergarten and its district, Mitte, is the best place to base yourself for sightseeing. You’re only a short metro, bus ride or stroll away from top attractions like the Victory Column, the Alexanderplatz Christmas Market, Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate and dozens of museums and art galleries.
But what I love most about Mitte is that it’s Berlin’s historic centre. It’s where East meets West and is a wonderful example of how the city has changed over the years.
Zooming in on Potsdamer Strabe (where Lulu Guldsmeden Hotel is located), art lovers will find a smorgasbord of things to see and do. Once famous for its theatre culture and museums, the street has become a melting pot for art and one of Berlin’s hippest neighbourhoods.
And the reasons to stay in Tiergarten keep coming. It’s the green heart of Berlin, making it the perfect spot for eco-conscious travellers.

I mean, when was the last time you had a swing in your hotel room? I felt like a little kid again and had a blast indulging in such a simple thing.

It’s usually not worth the money you pay for it too.
That is not the case at Lulu Guldsmeden Hotel.
The hotel serves a delicious four-course breakfast at its on-site restaurant BABBOBerlin from 07:30 am to 10:00 am daily.
You’re not just getting scrambled eggs, nay nay.
Give your waitress your dietary preferences, and you can expect a variation of the following:
- granola, vegan yoghurt, blueberries and fruit parfait
- pancakes with raspberries
- zucchini and tzatziki
- fried or scrambled eggs
- fresh fruit
- freshly baked bread
The train of delicious food doesn’t stop there.
Hotel guests can indulge in lunch or dinner at the restaurant. The menu changes daily and all dishes are made from locally sourced, organic, and fresh ingredients.
Plus, there is a bar serving up local beers, wine, spirits, and more.
Working Remotely From Lulu Guldsmeden
Need to check your emails? Are you working remotely or a digital nomad? Lulu has you covered.
Inside each room, you’ll find a desk and lightning-fast internet to keep you productive and on top of your deadlines,
If you prefer working with other people around, you can sit downstairs in the restaurant or the adjacent “co-working” space. You can sit at two long desks overlooking the street with plug points.
Grab a coffee and sandwich from the bar, and you have everything you need to graft for a couple of hours.

- The Brandenberg Gate: Brandenberg is Berlin’s most famous historical landmark. Commissioned by King Frederick Wilhelm II in 1788, the monument is 26 meters tall and was once part of the Berlin Wall.
- Museum Island: Spree Island, aka Museum Island, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of Berlin’s oldest and most important museums.
- Checkpoint Charlie Museum: The best-known crossing point between West and East Berlin before the wall came down. Here, you’ll find the original guardhouse and stories on attempts to cross the wall and escape communist rule.
- The Victory Column and Grosser Tiergarten: Once a royal hunting reserve, Grosser Tiergarten became a public park in 1700. While you won’t find wild deer roaming the grounds anymore, it’s home to an abundance of flowers, trees, and serene picnic spots. Tiergarten’s most famous monument is the Victory Column. Climb the 285 steps to the top of the 70-meter tall structure for panoramic views over Berlin.
