When I was a kid, I wanted to be a fairy.
No, I am not joking.
I binge-watched that Fairytale movie on repeat. I tried to find fairy circles to get “taken” into a magical realm and collected fairy dolls, statues, stationery – you name it, I had it.
(I also devoted A LOT of time to willing wings to sprout from my back.)
My childhood affliction towards all things fairy has led to an adulthood obsession with all things nature, more specifically staying in magical places like cabins.
…Cause if I were a fairy and I was looking for accommodation near Cape Town, those are the type of places I’d book!
And the Western Cape has no shortage of charming cabins.
- Want a cabin in the woods? Check.
- What about a cabin with a hot tub? Double-check.
- Looking for a mountain cabin with a hot tub surrounded by the woods? Ding! Ding! Ding! You’ve hit the jackpot!
After years of exploring where to stay in Cape Town and pouring over hours of research, I’d like to present you with the best cabins near Cape Town that will help you escape reality and enter a world of magical possibilities.

The Best Cabins Near Cape Town, South Africa
It’s time to switch off and reconnect with Mother Nature – guilt-free. Here are the best Western Cape cabins for your next weekend getaway from Cape Town.
Solace Cabin in Rawsonville
Distance from Cape Town: 1h 15min
Love wine? No other humans in sight? A hidden waterfall?
Then a night or three at Solace Cabin is in your future.
Located on the Breedekloof Wine Route, spend your days hopping from one estate to the other, growing your Chenin collection along the way.
With mountains surrounding each side of the cabin, you’re completely by yourself in the wilderness…but not without the necessary creature comforts.
The WiFi is decent for working remotely, an Espresso coffee machine will give you the boost to start your day, and there’s an exclusive hot tub (or plunge pool if you’re visiting in the summer).
Psst…To find the secret waterfall in Rawsonville, ask the owner at check-in for directions. Keep in mind, it’s not for people with weak knees, and it will take 1.5 to 2-hours to get there.

Are you planning a romantic getaway in the Western Cape? Cosy up with your beau at the Melozhori Eco Pods inside Melozhori Private Game Reserve.
Unwind in a wood-fired hot tub with a glass of wine from the Robertson Valley. I highly recommend the Springfield Cab Sauv if you love your reds or a bottle of The Ring MCC from Weltevrede if you’re celebrating something special.
But back to the pods!
Inside these Cape Town eco-cabins, you’ll have everything you need for a romantic trip or secluded honeymoon. Cook up a storm with the outdoor pizza oven and spot star constellations from the 14-meter hammock.

Cabine du Cap in the Klein Karoo
Distance from Cape Town: 2.5 hours
Itching for an off-the-grid escape? Hop into your car and travel to the small town of Montagu.
Just off the iconic R62 (one of the best road trips in South Africa), you’ll arrive at Cabine du Cap.
Far, far away from the bustle of city life, the only sounds you’ll hear are the wildlife grazing in the plains and the wind rolling through the valleys.
The cabin runs off solar power but doesn’t skimp on the luxuries. You’ll have access to the outside world (or you can switch off the WiFi for a digital detox), a fully equipped kitchen, a swimming pool, and an outdoor bath.
But the best part? The rates include a delicious breakfast!

Copia Eco Cabins in Bot River
Distance from Cape Town: 1.5 hours
Sometimes a digital detox is easier said than done.
Sure, you could switch your phone onto aeroplane mode, but deep down, you know you won’t last long. That urge to mindlessly scroll through Instagram becomes too strong, and before you know it, you’re replying to work emails.
Sound like you? Then a dose of Copia Eco Cabins is exactly what you need.
With little cellphone signal and no WiFi, you won’t have a choice. There’s no escaping into the online world here – only the sounds of nature, a good book, and the beautiful vistas of Botrivier.
Made from old shipping containers, these eco-cabins near Cape Town come with a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the valley, a luxurious king-sized bed, and a cos fireplace for those chilly winter evenings.
When you’re not at the cabin, explore the nearby Elgin Wine Route. My favourite estate in this region is South Hill. Come here for lunch if you have the time. Your tastebuds will adore you.
- Price: From R1,750
- Sleeps: 2
- WiFi: No

Leopard Valley Eco Retreat in the Cederberg
Distance from Cape Town: 2 hours
I have a special place in my heart for the Cederberg. I’ll never get enough of its majestic Mars-like landscape and the kaleidoscope of wildflowers that transform the region in spring.
Some of the newest cabins near Cape Town are nestled between Cirtusdal and Clanwilliam at the Leopard Valley Eco Retreat. Three stylish cabins made from old shipping containers are an off-the-grid home base for exploring the area.
When you’re not cooling off in your private pool, you can discover ancient San Rock paintings, tackle a hiking trail, or wander around the magnificent rock formations.

Rosemary Cabins in the Banhoek Conservancy

On the edge of a lake in the heart of the Banhoek Conservancy near Stellenbosch, you’ll find three beautiful cabins.
Each one has modern finishings, a fully equipped kitchen and is decked out for the gods.
When you check in, you’ll find a complimentary bottle of wine (the way to my heart) and a breathtaking vista of the farm from your private deck.
Pack an inflatable, and float around the dam between dips into its refreshing waters.

Poortjies Eco Cabin on Suidster Farm
Distance from Cape Town: 3-hours
“Where the heck is Suidster?!”
That was my first thought when I stumbled across the Poortjies Eco Cabin during one of my weekly Airbnb scrolling sprees.
Suidster is between Montagu and Barrydale along the R62. The Langeberg mountains set the stage for dramatic Western Cape scenery, and pristine fynbos surrounds the cabin.
Run with solar power and completely off-the-grid, it’s the perfect weekend getaway from Cape Town. With total privacy, you can relax in the wood-fired hot tub underneath the stars or jump in the car and sip your way through the Barrydale Wine Route.
Wine not your thing? Barrydale has a craft beer scene, and Montagu has a brandy distiller.

The Greenhouse in Swellendam
Distance From Cape Town: 2-hours
Technically, The Greenhouse isn’t a cabin, but I couldn’t leave this space off the list with such a unique design and beautiful interiors.
With glass walls wrapping the entire building, it creates an immersive and intimate experience. The forest surrounds you, and you’ll hear nothing but gentle bird songs from the treetops.
Start your day with a dip in the private outdoor plunge pool, warm up on the sun deck, and enjoy your breakfast in the conservatory.
Boarding the Marloth Nature Reserve, you’re only a short drive away from some spectacular Western Cape hikes and vistas.

Fynbos Suites in Gaansbaai
Distance From Cape Town: 2.5 hours
Venture forth into the lesser-known Uilkraal Valley. Located between Stanford and Cape Agulhas, spend the night on an 800-hectare farm inside one of the most beautiful eco-cabins in the Cape.
Each of the three Fynbos Suites on Farm 215 offers stylish comfort, floor-to-ceiling windows, and spellbinding views of the dam and vineyards. With 60 meters between each building, you’ll have all the seclusion you need for a romantic getaway from Cape Town.
But what makes a stay at Fynbos unique isn’t the eco-friendly materials used to build the units. It’s the commitment to conservation. When you stay at the farm, you’re encouraged to plant a tree and support the property’s reforestation efforts.

Oudebosch Eco Cabins in Kleinmond

I don’t know about you, but there is something magical about staying inside a nature reserve.
Maybe it’s simply knowing you’re the only humans there, and you’re officially part of a select few who can stay they spent a night here.
Oudebosch Eco Cabins in Kleinmond (near Betty’s Bay) is one of Cape Nature’s finest properties. Located in the beautiful Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, the cabins were designed by Justin Cooke and won the Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction.
When you aren’t relaxing at the cabin, you can hike to nearby waterfalls, watch whales from a scenic drive through the reserve, go mountain biking, or tackle the white water rapids at Palmiet River.
Not enough to tempt you? The reserve is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sondagskloof in Overberg
Distance From Cape Town: 2-hours
On the hunt for a cabin in the woods near Cape Town?
Allow me to introduce you to Sondagskloof in the Overberg region. In between Poplar trees and towering, fynbos covered mountains are three hidden cabins.
Situated in the Sandies Glen Valley, you’re 20km from the nearest town, Stanford.
Despite the remoteness of these Cape cabins, you will want for nothing. Each building relies on solar energy and is equipped with luxurious finishings, percale linen, and a chef-style galley kitchen.
When the sun is out, put the braai on, cool off in the natural dam, and sunbathes on the large wooden deck.
Sleeping only two, it’s an ideal Cape Town getaway for couples who crave a slower pace and a chance to drop in and reconnect.
