Working from home in your onesie is the new normal.
But with Netflix only a click away, and adorable pets on stand-by, distractions are everywhere.
As someone who has been living the remote lifestyle since 2016, I know how important it is to have a home office set up that helps you get shit done.
Few things can tank your productivity (or make you lose your cool) like an uncomfortable chair, your roommates cranking up the TV or hogging all the plug points near the dining room table.
If you’re on a mission to create the home office of your dreams, here are a few work from home essentials that deserve a spot on your desk!

Work From Home Essentials Every Freelancer Needs
Tech & Accessories
Ever since buying my first Macbook Pro in 2018, I’ve been hooked!
I use the 13-inch and it’s made working while travelling so much easier. It’s super light-weight and easily fits into my smallest backpack.
Plus, using a laptop means I can respond to emails from my couch or watch a YouTube video while cooking dinner.
iPad & Apple Pencil
If you’re thinking, “Why the heck would I need an iPad?!“. Allow me to bring you over to the dark side.
As someone who is always buying courses and self-development books and scribbling across countless journals – I could never quickly find my notes.
Raise your hand if you’ve damaged your laptop’s battery because of over-heating. ?
If you want to avoid an expensive trip to the iStore repair centre, a laptop stand is a work from home essential!
Not only does it stop you from hunching over and straining your neck, but it also helps keep your laptop cool.
I freaking love my iPad stand!
Gone are the days of having to glance down or scroll through my phone. Plus, it frees up space on my desk and reduces clutter.
A cellphone stand is such a great home office essential. It makes Skype and video calls so much easier, and you can use both your hands if you need to look things up on your laptop.
I also use mine for my Facebook and Instagram Lives, and it’s great for watching YouTube videos hands-free!
Roommates hogging all the outlets?
Want to work outside while charging your devices?
Invest in a sleek charging station. You can buy one that will charge your iPhone, iWatch and headphones at the same time.
Another working from home sin I’m guilty of is my bad posture. If there is a way for me to hunch over my laptop and strain my neck – I’ll figure it out!
A posture corrector is one of those nice-to-have home office essentials that can zap you out of your bad sitting habits.
Sitting for long periods is not great for your health. It can increase your risk of chronic health problems and send your metal health into a nosedive.
Plus, there’s all the slouching.
If you want to nip your bad posture in the bud, opt for an adjustable standing and sitting desk. It will keep your laptop at eye level, prevents hunching and improves your core strength.
Don’t fall into the crap of building mountains on your desk.
Keep all your clutter out of sight, but in easy reach with a computer stand that doubles as desk storage.
It’s a great option if you want to keep things as minimal as possible.
Want a daily planner that keeps you accountable and helps you manifest your big dreams for the year?
Pick up a copy of Dreamy Moon’s Year of Growth.
It’s created by Australian artist and YouTuber, Annie Tarasova. At the end of each week and month, you have space to reflect on your goals, set new intentions and practice gratitude.
Ever since I got into journaling in 2019, I go through an A5 buffalo from Typo every three months.
But besides a journal being an important part of my working from home productivity routine, I keep it nearby to jot down any new product ideas or questions for my business coach.
Cute desk accessories help make “going to work” a little more fun.
Add some personality to your desk with a pen holder. It keeps your other stationery essentials in easy reach.
Plus, it stops you from digging around in a pencil case before you dump the whole thing out on your desk anyway.
No matter what you do as a remote worker, it’s a good idea to make a back-up of all the important stuff.
Set The Mood
Pour-Over Coffee Station
Instant coffee is for amateurs.
Make sure you’re fuelled by the good stuff with a pour-over coffee station.
It will make dealing with those email threads and unnecessary Monday mornings that much easier.
Adding indoor plants to your home office isn’t all about the aesthetics.
According to a bunch of studies, plants can help improve air quality and impact on your overall health, mood and productivity.
Not a coffee person? Or want to reap the incredible health benefits of green tea while at your desk?
Green tea is considered an anti-ageing beverage which is great news if lockdown is keeping you from your regular botox appointments.
Steep those fine-lines away with a tea strainer.
Lastly, what’s a home office without a smorgasbord of scented candles?
Some research that has linked smelling scents like jasmine, vanilla, citrus, cinnamon and lavender to improving your mood and productivity.
